The one thing to look out for in “older” toys is small parts. Most toys marked for 3 & up are due to safety issues and not a developmental label. There is also such a huge difference as you know between a one year old (technically a toddler) and a two year old–yet both. So some of the toys on our list are for that first birthday.

Many of your toddler picks seem to fall into this range so I’ve found myself peeking at the older groups and trying to guess at the ones that a younger child will be interested in.

We love the Caterpillar Spillars though. That seems to be the kind of toy that will really last.
